Dress the baby how youll dress this summer, to be comfortable and cool. babies get reallt irritated if they are too hot. You wont need much, but being a first time, you WILL go over board buying lots of new, cute outfits. But just be sure to wash everything before hand, i didnt and my baby got a rash cause of the new clothes.

you will need thin clothing. you don’t want to smother the baby and make him too hot, but you want him to be covered from the air conditioning and sun. onesies make perfect summer outfits because if they get too chilly you can put socks and a sheet to cover them up.

lots of onsies, and cute short sets.

oneies are a wonderful thing to have, you should have those and some light sleepers if you have air condtioning. A few bibs, or cloth diapers to use as “spit up” cloths.

Depending if you have an easy access to your own washer/dryer I ‘d say 7-10 + oneies, sleepers or little outfits. Get a few 0-3 mos., 3-6 mos. depending too how big the baby is too. Congrats and good luck! They grow quick!!

Onesies…..definitely…..try old navy baby. Not only do they have REALLY cute onesies, but they also have them in three packs for really cheap!

also, you will need a lot of them…..keep in mind, most babies don’t fit newborn size when they are born. Start with 3-6 month old size clothes.

My first daughter was born in May. We live in TX. I put her in the onesies alot around the house and the one piece rompers for going out. She also had a few cutsie summer dresses. How many items you need to buy depends on how often you want to do laundry. I washed laundry once a week. My babies usually go through. 2 onesies, one romper, and on nighty every day…using a bib will also greatly reduce the amount of clothes you need to buy. You can just change the bib out. Socks were not necessary for us..It is so hot and their feet are soooo cute..
Good luck and congrats with the new baby

Onsies… the most important for summer, if you arnt going anywhere and neither is the baby, onsie is the perfect outfit of the day, plus they are also great pj’s at night for the summer, my baby was born in may and all summer long she wore onsies unless we were going out and visiting someone.

    if its a girl, i would buy…
5 summer dresses, people will want to see your new beuaty
    1 occasional dress, pictures!
5 summer outfits, out and about
10 pairs of socks, keep those feet warm
2 sweaters, for colder nights and rainy cool days
2 pairs of pants, for colder nights and rainy cool days
5 sleepers, the gerber ones are thin and great pj’s
2 gowns, easy to put on, great pj’s
    5 recieving blankets
    10 burp cloths
    6 towls
    8 wash cloths

alot of 0-3 and 3-6 months sizes
stay away from newborn sizes (NB) because those only last like a month,

Target is a great store, they have these cute dresses that are like 7 dollars and they go on easy almost like a onsie, also they have the gerber onsies on sale all the time, you can get everythiing in one store

hopefully u will get everything you need at your baby shower, which usually you will get more than you need : )
    * don’t go out and spend a ton of money on all high priced baby cloths, its not worth it because each size is only good for 3 months at a time, stick with target, baby gap and all the rest are really cute but also real exspensive

    goodluck,,,

Onies are great and lightweight as well! I agree with the other ladies… babies get hot and uncomfortable, so dress how you would dress and make sure they’re not too hot!
Have fun! and since they grow out of them so fast… second hand stores are great for buying little cute outfits!

thin cotton growers…………you should keep your baby coverd up in the sun

  11. Krystal L says:

onesies, you could do little summer dresses any summer outfits just make sure you have a summer hat to keep the sun off bc you really arent suppose to use sunscreen on their skin for a few months. umm also i think you are suppose to keep a layer on more than you do for babies so maybe dress however but make sure you have a light blanket like a recieving blanket

It is difficult to know how fast your baby will grow (my first one stayed in the sizes corresponding to how old he was, and my second is now in 12 month size clothing at 7 months).

Get some newborn and 0-3 month size onesies, some soft little knit shorts, a few one-piece lightweight sleepers for cool nights and a few cute outfits for pictures / dressy occasions.

I was a May baby and my mom kept me in onesies all summer. My boys are both fall babies and so wore one piece outfits. This summer they have plenty of onesies to get them through, paired with some shorts!

I live in a hot climate. Onsies are the greatest for warm weather. Most of them are a thin cotton knit. They are light weight and breathe well. We have air conditioning and tend to run it on the cool side at night so I put our son in the one piece footy pj’s for bedtime. If you don’t have A/C you’ll want to dress the baby a bit cooler ~ A onsie would be ok for bedtime too. I would probably get about a dozen in 0-3 months.

Most babies like to be swaddled when they are first born, so you will need a few receiving blankets, I would say 4-5 (the hospital staff will show you how to do this).

Plenty of burp cloths! My son is 6 months old and I still go through 2-4 a day!

As far as quantities go on the above items it depends on your laundry situation. If you have to go to a laundrymat I would by plenty so you don’t have to go as often.

Of course you’ll need diapers. I would start with one package of newborns, they usually grow out of them quickly. Maybe a package or two of size 1′s. My 6-mos old is still in size 2-3. Of all the wipes I’ve tried I like Wal-Marts the best (Parents Choice ~ Sensitive). Stock up on wipes ~ you use a ton! Also get some diaper rash cream/ointment.

    Bathing:
It’s not a necessity but I have an infant bathtub and it’s much easier and safer to bathe your baby. I use our bath towels. I bought a big package of wash cloths (regular size, not baby) at Wal-Mart (18 for $4) and they work just fine (it’s actually what they use in the hospital). I use johnson’s baby wash to clean him. You’ll need q-tips & infant nail clippers also. I’ve never used baby oil or powder on either of my boys. I use lotion on occassion.

Obviously if you are bottle feeding you will need bottles and nipples. A bottle brush helps for cleaning them.

There is so much on the market to buy for babies it really is hard to tell what the basic necessities are!

Another item that is not a necessity but my son loves is his bouncy seat. It allows mom a few minutes of baby free time (you know, for frivilous things like going pee!).

    Good luck and congratulations!

    Onesies, Onesies & More Onesies!
If other people want to buy your baby tons of outfits, by all means, let them! Save your money for things that you NEED! Buy a good quality diapers, and thick wipes. Don’t buy an over abundance of newborn diapers, most likely the baby will grow so fast you will waist money. When you shop at the mall & you see the cutest pair of nikes for the baby….save your money, usually you can’t get them on baby & if you do, they fall off. Pediatricians will tell you not to buy shoes for baby until they are 10-11 months. When they begin walking is when it’s most important. If you do want a few outfits to show baby off in when you go on outings, make sure it’s comfortable for baby. In the summer, they get so hot being in the carriers. You can purchase some very cute onesies at Baby Gap, & Old Navy….make sure they are a little more on the loose side. When they go to bed at night, I always liked the soft nightgowns. Take the string out of the bottom & they are comfy. Make sure the night gowns have and hand protector in them. Baby scratches him/her self all the time. If you choose to breastfeed, you will need a portable pump that you can plug into your car. Many times you are in public, you can go to your car. You can never have to many receiving blankets either. They are great to wrap baby in. They usually wash well too. Be sure to wash baby’s laundry in special soap. Baby will break out if you use tide….or anything along those lines. Have fun, relax & enjoy bonding with baby! God Bless!!!

Onesies are the best. The baby can sleep in them and play in the house in them. When you go out though I would add some shorts or something so their little legs dont get hot on the car seat. I always bought 14 then I would wash every 5 days. Make sure you have plenty of receiving blankets I would go through two of those a day as well with spit ups etc. I also used All free and clear it is wonderful and my children still have very sensitive skin. It is not as expensive as the other stuff but still the same.
