I knew a girl named Yamalai (pronounced YAH-mah-lay) and I always thought it was such a beautiful name. However, it completely suited her, so that may have a lot to do with it’s appeal to me. She was very exotic looking, absolutely gorgeous (although very shy and had no idea how absolutely gorgeous she was), very kind, graceful, generous, and was just as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. That name has always just radiated femininity and grace to me…and you don’t hear it very often.
Of course, I could never get away with naming my own child that. Somehow the name just doesn’t fit a child that would likely be fair-skinned with blonde hair and blue eyes, but it remains one of the most beautiful (and original) names I have ever heard in my life.
