  1. 7 Days to go! says:

Yes, an absolute must! You never know what chemicals the fabrics may have come in contact with as well as anyone else’s dirty hands… wash them so you know they are safe and clean!

  2. Song Title? says:

Wash them ahead of time in a baby safe detergent like Dreft (spelling?).

  3. Being induced 3/20/2009! says:

Yes! Because just like when you buy new clothes, you could be allergic until after that first wash. They are much more comfortable. Baby’s skin is very sensitive in the beginning so wash with DREFT

  4. ❤Valerie❤ says:

i honestly didnt wash them even though they told me to and nothing happened to my son but they do that incase of chemicals and stuff getting on your babies sensative skin and having an allergic reaction or something

  5. Bobbie (Emilee's Mom) says:

before she was born I washed everything, and had no problems. Now sometimes i forget, but she doesn’t have sensitive skin. For a newborn defiantly wash everything first, but once they get oder, only do it if they have sensitive skin.

I think you should wash any new clothes before any person wears them, personally. They are likely to be coated in all kinds of chemicals including formaldehyde, pesticides, etc, especially if imported. This stuff isn’t good for our health or skin- and skin rashes are just one of the possible negative effects. I think it just makes sense to wash clothing before having it on anyone’s bare skin, and an infant is all the more sensitive, being smaller and more likely to have a response to toxic chemicals. There are long term health risks to consider besides the obvious.

  7. Erin says:

Absolutely … i work at a store where we sell baby clothing .. and you should see how disgusting the boxes they come in are not to mention how much they fall on the floor…. plus all the people who touch them and you never know where their hands have been!!
