Marketing is such a lovely thing.. isn’t it?

First and foremost you will need to fill a demand. Now, when looking for prospective buyers, you will need to make sure they are a business and they can buy in bulk. Importing bedding is less expensive than actually buying from a USA distributor by far, but the minimum order requirements are more. For instance you can buy the 6 piece crib set “Del Mar” from Kidsline for 119.00 or you can buy it in bulk from the importer at 26.50 per set, but you have to order 256 sets from the exporter and only 1 from kidsline – then plus the import cost plus the shipping then the cost to logo the products. I am not kidding on those prices either, they are very accurate – i happen to know the exporter that sells to kidsline and many others and i have those priceguides. I am assuming that is what you are wanting to be, a distributor to the commerical industry?

Make sure what you are importing is:
    a. good quality
    b. can meet or exceed current industry standards (i.e. current favorable themes, styels, etc…)
    c. can fill the need of the buyers.

Once you know the ship times from the importer, you will then need to make calls to local and non-local USA retailers. You will need a catalog and priceguide of sorts and let them know of ship times to them – when the product will be available to purchase from you. Do not jump too far ahead though, make sure all avenues regarding total costs to you have been applied before contacting the retailers, or you will be out money.

baby bedding industry is certainly cut-throat. I know because I have been in the industry for 9 years. You will be competing with multi-million dollar companies. Their marketing campaigns are primarily online and then word-of-mouth.

You will also need to take into consideration that when you import the goods, they are blanked goods. Meaning you will have to sew on the USA guideline tags, your name, care instructions, etc… that is for bedding or fabrics. Unless you find an importer who will do this for you – that costs more on the dollar, but not much and you have to send in your design / logos.
