Babies don’t stay babies.. they grow up. and cost even more

At least 5k for your baby a year.. food, clothes, diapers, toys, crib, craddles.ect

My health teacher said 31,000 US dollars for the first year on the low end. As in buying a used crib, garage sales, etc. The high end was upwards 70,000, which is probably closer to you.

Lost of websites say “8,000″. That’s just bull.

    about $200k

The average cost for 18 years of being a parent apprently sets you back around £100,000 in total.

I remember seeing the insurance bills from the hospital for both my kids. We have insurance that pretty much covers 100% of prenatal up to and including delivery.

I had 2 c-sections. Both of my children were breech. Both were planned c-sections. My first required a little extra care in the beginning as I went into labor before my scheduled section and ended up going emergency. There were minor complications.

With my first, we also stayed in the hospital a day longer that the typical c-section mommy and baby do because he was a little jaundiced.

Bill for my son was over $35,000. Bill for my daughter was around $22,000.

Of course…this total included the days we spent in the hospital (4 days for my son and 3 for my daughter). It also included the surgery charges and the painkillers and the anesthesiologist and every other person that was in the OR during the delivery.

Not too sure that this will give you any context to your question, but it might give you the high end version of things!!

    Good luck!

Like everything else, you can spend just about as much as you want to. There are plenty of retailers ready and eager to separate you from your money, and it’s very tempting as new parents to relieve your anxieties about being unprepared by buying more stuff!

We managed to keep it down to:

Homebirth midwife, fees and supplies- about 3K, some reimbursed by insurance
Cloth diapers- about $500 for the first year
Supplies, clothing and other miscellaneous- about $750, plus shower gifts

We cosleep, so no crib to buy (we did upgrade to a king-sized bed when we had our second child, though) and breastfed, so food expenses were minimal at first.

By far the biggest expense was the loss of my income, since we chose for me to work part time instead of full time.

Hospital bills would be a lots without insurance. I’m not sure how much because my medicaid pay for everything and I never receive the bills.

About baby items, it will be a lots. My husband and I spend a lots to buy diapers and clothes for both of our child..

It all depends there is no way to tell for sure as you never know if you will have complications. With my daughter, my first, I had no complications didn’t go to the hospital only went to my normal doctor appt. so it didn’t cost to much around 5k. With my son on the other hand I was in and out of the hospital which besides the birth I have close to 5k in medical bills AFTER insurnace paid there part not even sure how much the delivery cost but I can tell you that a one night stay at the hospital for me was 2200.00 and that was not a delivery so you can just imagine how much the delivery was. You may plan to have a home birth but things can change so you need to be prepared for a hospital delivery which I would say is anywhere from 5k on up depending if you have a normal delivery or c-section. Me and my husband bought everything for our son which cost about 2k for everything he needs. Cloth diapers are expensive and so are natural organic products. Plus you have to think about are you going to breastfeed(if you plan this be prepared to change you mind) I was for sure going to breastfeed but ended up bottlefeeding because of personal reason. So I would say it could be 25k on up for the first year of life and that doesn’t even include day care which the cheapest I found for a newborn was 125 a week which depends on your area.

I recently had a homebirth with a registered mid-wife and yes, insurance doesnt cover it. Her price was $3,500 from start to finish (check-ups, birth, and follow up check-ups). I personally do the whole yard sale shopping lol and you can get amazing stuff for the baby that is hardly used.

$10,000 maybe but you might want to consider insurance though. You’ll need prenatal care and still need to pay the midwives.Pregnancy is unpredictable i ended up having c-section though i had planned a vaginal birth.

I’ve done the same thing with my baby (gone completely organic) but i haven’t thought of the cost at all. I do know it cost me $200 just for the nappies alone. But the way i see it, if you want the best for your child, the cost is the last thing on your mind.

I would say to have a baby when you have your own home, transportation, health insurance, good jobs, you can be single and still support the baby, mentally stable, and ready.

With a midwife your still paying around $5,000 and your going to want insurance for the child as they go to the doctors often. My insurance does cover a mid wife and birthing center.

I have used Fuzzi Bunz and those cost $20 per diaper and you need about 20 to start.

Natural baby products do cost more than mainstream brands and so do organic clothing and styles are limited.

This is what it cost me to start out:
Birth $12,000 at a highly known hospital. I wanted to do a birthing center, but glad I didn’t because I had complications that could have killed my son.

    Diapers I use Huggies ($25 a box) and target ($12 a box).

    Wipes I use are Target for 700 it’s $11

Crib was free from Craig’s list

Clothing I bought mostly used or free for both kids. Although for my son most of his clothing is new as it’s hard to find nice used clothing and I hate things with cars and dinosaurs. I shop Outlets for him and have spent maybe $500 this year on clothing with most being from Children Museum and Gap and I never pay more than $10 for an outfit so I get pretty good deals.

Car Seat – This is one thing that should be bought new for safety. They also expire in 6 years. It saves money to go with a convertable which last until there 3 or longer, but is easy to use a infant carseat during the first few months. Average cost is $100

Stroller – I needed this and use it daily. Your choice depends on the use. I have a double jogger and love my Maclaren and Chicco Liteway. You can spend from $40 to $5000 on a stroller that is suitable for a newborn.

Diaper Bag – Something that can transform into a back pack is great and has room. Spent $40 on mine for a used Petunia Pickle Bottom

Breast Pump – Most insurance will cover it. Otherwise for a good one it will cost around $200.

Ergo Carrier – I have used this with both kids and was well worth the $120 price tag.

Garages Sales, Craigs list, and Free Cycle are great to check out.
