I always did the bleach and water soak for the plastic hard toys.
For stuffed animals, you can wash them on gentle and tumble dry low. Anything that cannot be submerged can be sprayed down with lysol safely. That was what my pediatrician always suggested.
I put everything in the dishwasher, except stuffed animals, those go in the laundry.
I hardly clean them now (they are 4 y/o), but when they were babies, I did it once or twice a month. More if they were sick.
just wipe it wiv a mix nnot alot but paper towel and wipe it idk sorry i tried ma’am
The only time I ever washed toys was if they were visibly dirty.
Germs are everywhere, but you don’t need to worry. The exposure to them is a good thing and can build up their immune system. Don’t worry about her putting things in her mouth because that’s not only how babies learn, it’s also how their immuse system improves.
Unless you can see something on them or if there’s been sickness in the house, there’s really no need to wash them.
I would, however, wipe them down with a Clorox wipe every now and then.
I’m with adrian. I rarely cleaned toys unless they had visible dirt or fell on the floor in a gross public place. I’ve never washed her stuffed animals except to wipe spills off them with a baby wipe. My daughter will be 2 tomorrow and has been sick only twice.
I wash my sons cloth teething toys in the washer.I have the dreft dis-infective wipes so I will wipe his plastic toys. I don’t do the bleach with his toys just in case some gets inside of them such as rattles and stuff,I wouldn’t want bleach water to get in my son’s mouth.

I also do the diluted bleach water. Works well for me.
hot soap and water, evry 2-3 weeks
“I imagine you throw the hard plastic things in to diluted bleach water”
Funny. No.
Just give them a rinse under the tap every now and then.
Most stuffed animals will go through the wash okay regardless of what it says on the tag; put them in a knotted pillowcase, use a gentle cycle, don’t put them in the dryer.
I don’t use chemicals around my home and especially around my baby so I either use bi-carb & vinegar or an organic wash from the health store.
Any soft toys go in the washing machine (whether they say they’re submergible or not – they’ve always come out 100% fine). I just put them in a laundry bag on a gentle cycle with the rest of his clothes etc. I usually walk around the house adding a toy here & there whenever I do a load of his washing so I’d say they’d all get washed once a week.
Any hard toys I throw in the sink & wash with hot soapy water (I use a chemical free liquid wash from the health store) the same as I wash his bottles / feeding utensils etc. I throw most of his hard chew toys in the sink & wash at the end of the day ready for the next day.
His exersaucer which is covered in chew toys, I wash down weekly with a wash cloth & hot soapy water. I also pull apart his play pen once a week & wipe down his rubber mats with hot soapy water.
Hope this helps!
Plastic baby toys can be cleaned on the top shelf of the dishwasher (use a mesh lingerie bag for smaller toys so they don’t go flying all over the place while in there) or in a pail with one gallon cool water with one tablespoon of bleach added (then make sure you rinse them in another pail of water and let air dry). You can also use a combo of soapy water and white vinegar to wipe the toys down with if you’d rather a non toxic alternative.
Most plush toys that are specifically for babies can be washed in the washing machine. Actually, I’ve put plush toys in the washing machine that said spot clean only and had no problems with them. I just tied them in a pillow case and washed on the gentle cycle, then let them air dry unless they were all squished up, then I tossed them in the dryer on low with a couple tennis balls in there to fluff it back up again.
I just went through all my little one’s plush toys (just to double check..lol) and they area all safe to be washed on the gentle cycle then air dried or tumble dried on low.
It is recommended that the toys be cleaned rather frequently (couple times a week at least unless there is an illness in your house or the baby is sick, then they should be cleaned every day). For this reason I have a few ‘sets’ of toys. Once she’s played with a set for a day or two, that set will be put aside and I will have another set for her to use that’s already been cleaned, so I’m not a slave to disinfecting!
I’ve not come across toys that can’t be submerged, unless they have electronics in them that can’t be temp removed. I soak plastic toys in bleach and hot water, stuffed animals and such usually go in with the regular wash and toys that can’t be done by those means, I would suggest spraying with diluted natural cleaner and water, can’t say I like the idea of spraying lysol or other disinfecting cleaners on a toy that my child is going to put in their mouth when I wouldn’t do that to myself. Isn’t that the reason for label warnings like do not ingest or corrosive.
I’d say to clean them as often as you like. More often if they are favourite toys, but usually once a week for a big clean is standard, and more is preference, unless other kids have been playing with them or they get taken outside.
I’m a big fan of Dapple! http://www.dapplebaby.com/
You can buy them at Babies R Us.
Plush toys I throw in the laundry with her clothes… even some that say “do not submerge in water”. They’ve all came out fine. (I did it once by accident and realized it was okay)
I clean them whenever I think of it. More when she’s sick.
I put small toys in the dishwasher and plush toys through the washer
large items just get a wipe down here and there when they look like they could use one!
I am not that scared of germs – we occasionally throw plastic toys in the dishwasher if they’re especially grimy. In terms of plush toys, well I usually didn’t worry about it until my son threw a favorite stuffed dog into the dirty litter box. I had read online that you could freeze such toys to rid them of bacteria. My husband happens to have an old friend who is an environmental biologist and a father of two, so he asked him. The biologist said that he thought many bacteria would probably survive freezing much better than hot temperatures and, in his opinion, he’d wash the toy in the washer and if it didn’t make it through, throw it out. So that’s what we do if we think a plush toy really needs washing. And all of them have survived, regardless of what it said on the label. We only wash stuff when it’s really dirty.
I use a spray especially for babies (Milton, by mother care) I clean them everyday or every two days. My baby puts everything in her mouth as well. I use a cloth and wipe every toy and plush toys too.
