I buy all of my daughter’s clothes at the local consignment stores. Many times the original tags are on them and you can get baby outfits for under $10.00 for high quality name brand stuff.
If you have a Kohl’s nearby they are always having sales and have pretty decent stuff like Carters brand.
My MIL regularly buys out Gymboree and it makes me a little sick knowing that my daughter will probably only wear her $50 outfit a couple of times.
craigslist.org
ebay.com
Some are new some are used… still less than 50.00 an outfit.
I do a lot of clearance rack shopping when I go to stores like Old Nvay, Target, Meijer(if you live in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio), Walmart, Sears, JCPenny…etc.. I don’t pay full price for any of the clothes I buy my son.
thrift stores… they have great stuff!
Depending on your area…check and see if there are any reslae or consignment shops,. i live near Chicago and there is a chain called Once Upon a Child. All gently used clothing. You can get a pair of jeans for $3, a shirt for $2. Some stuff is designer label as well (Tommy Hilfiger, Polo, Gymboree, etc.) ususally tese items are a little more expensive…but only a couple dollars. For $50 I got my son 12 shirts and 4 pairs of shorts. Also…for as quickly as they grow out of things…this is well worth it!! The ones by me sart with infant sizes and go up to ??? My son is in a 4T and i can still shop there!! They also have shoes and toys and baby gear like strollers, cribs and such. My son has HUGE WIDE feet…so the only thing i really splurge on is his shoes (we usually buy Stride Rite). Good luck!!
P.S. Check out e-bay as well. LOTS of stuff there too!!
You can get large lots of clothes on Ebay for extremely cheap. That’s probably the best route to take.
For actual store, I really like H&M. They have really cute outfits for very cheap.
Amen to consignment stores! You can always find great clothing in excellent, mint condition for a cheap price.
If you refuse to buy 2nd hand, Old Navy has decent prices with very adorable clothing for boy or girl.
You can always try Ebay, people sell new and used clothing.
I agree, consignment shops are the best. I have one here in MI that sells only name brand clothes and I find everything I need there. The most I’ve ever paid is $15 for a Columbia winter coat …brand new !!!!!!!!!
Outlet malls are also pretty reasonable, if you can buy a season ahead, which is hard to do with little ones, not knowing how fast they are going to sprout up on us !!!!
Like G-gal said, consignment shops are amazing!
You might also try upscale secondhand stores. Sometimes just driving out to the Goodwill or Salvation Army in a well-heeled neighborhood will lead to amazing finds.
And keep an eye out for big quarterly or semi-annual consignment sales sponsored by mother’s groups or church groups. My neighbor just told me about a huge sale about 45 minutes away – it explains why her little girl is always so fashionably dressed!
I *do* splurge from time to time, especially now that my kiddo is three and outfits last a bit longer. But I completely understand your perspective – it is crazy to spend $50 for something that might only fit for a few weeks!
Carters always has sales, Burlington Coat Factory (Baby Depot), Kohl’s, Target, etc. I really don’t think it’s worth paying that much on baby’s clothing when all they’re going to do is dirty it, and grow out of it soon after buying it.
I watch for the sales and have found many items for $10.00 and less at Sears, Children’s Place, Toysarus etc. But I do find Zellers, Wal-Mart and Sears have the best consistant prices. Also Costco sells sleepers for $6.00 and they are great! I with you I can’t justify spending that kind of money, exspecially when we go every 2 months and buy her a whole new wardrobe, they just grow sooo quick. (Gymboree has nice clothes but who can spend $30.00 on 1 sleeper or $50.00 on an outfit)
go to marshalls or tjmaxx. you can get brand new outfits for $5-$15. name brands too like carter’s (my personal fav) as well as the cute ralph lauren polo dresses, etc. i don’t have a problem w/ conseignment shops, but the one i visit usually doesn’t have a lot of what i’m looking for. i’ve had the best luck at tjmaxx and marshalls.
JC Penney ~ Watch for their sales. They have amazing sales. I’ve gotten some really cute outfits for my son for as little as $4 (they were even Carters!).
I got almost all my kids clothes at consignment shops. Ebay is good too. Theres no need to buy brandnew clothes for them. the used ones are only sold if clean and your kids are just gonna get them messy anyhow. I even sold alot of these clothes back for a good amount of money towards the next size clothes. I did this with the cribs too.
