I don’t know the patterns that you mention so I can’t help you there. However if you are going to buy a knitting machine for baby and kids clothes I would go for a standard guage machine (gauge is the width between the needles). I think this is 5 or 6mm and is the most common machine around. this will knit fine yarns and some 8 ply. If you plan to knit mostly in heavier yarns you will be better off with a bulky/chunky machine with a guage of about 9mm. If you are buying secondhand, find out if you can source parts before you buy as some machines have gone out of business. If you buy secondhand, you will need to replace the sponge retaining bar before you begin. Once you have your chosen machine, allow yourself time to get familiar with it before you try anything complicated or you may get frustrated and give up. Good luck and happy knitting.
I wouldn’t waste my money on a Bond. They are cheaply made and will not give you the results you are looking for. I used to own a custom knitting business and did LOTS of baby clothes. I would look on Ebay for a used Reed-Silver or Brother machine. I would also check to see if there is a dealer near your town. Brother is no longer made, but Reed-Silver is and taking lessons will make a huge difference. Getting a good machine to start with will give you good results and minimum frustration. I still have my machines from 20 years ago and wouldn’t trade them for anything. They have clothed my family (as well as other people’s families) for years and I don’t regret passing the Bond frames by back in those days in favor of a real machine with real design capabilities. You can punch two color designs and knit fair isle automatically, as well as texture stitches, cables and eyelet lace. You can’t do that with a Bond.
Before you buy anything check out a Bond machine group. I am in a group called the incrediblesweatermachineclub through Yahoo. If you want more information on how to convert patterns, etc., this is the group to join and ask all the questions you need. As far as I know, you can convert just about any pattern to a knitting machine. You can also convert patterns to the Knifty Knitters. I own 2 Bond machines and I like them.
